Gallery > BEACON Public Art Installation

BEACON is a 12-foot-tall steel, LED interactive sculpture inspired by African American inventor Lewis H. Latimer's 1880s patent drawings for the electric lamp and manufacturing of the carbon filament.
BEACON Installation Day, Shervone Neckles with collaborator Beam Center and Fabrication team
2021

BEACON is made possible by a unique collaboration between artist Shervone Neckles, youth empowerment organization Beam Center, and the Lewis Latimer House Museum.

BEACON was fabricated by a team of Beam Center’s Fellows - young adults from across the NYC area who learned metalworking, welding, circuitry, cement/polymer casting, mold-making, and collaboration while fabricating this monumental sculpture.
